Now that all the hubbub is over and Prince William and his lovely bride Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have finished their tour of North America I thought I’d share, what for my mother is now a cherished moment.
Being a Scottish born Canadian, I come from a family who have always had a high regard for the Monarchy. We were thoroughly enchanted by Princess Diana [See Guy Kawasaki's book- Enchantment ] and her sons. Prince William is close in age to my own son, and as such I have followed him as he has grown into a striking and compassionate young man. I enjoy the photos of him and his bride, showing a deep love between the two. William has much of his mother’s carriage about him, quite a few of his mannerisms evoke her memory.
I looked forward to the Royal visit and knew I would get first hand accounting of part of the tour. My parents were a part of a group of Veterans and their wives who were meeting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Canada’s War Museum, on July 2nd. My mother was very excited and of course went shopping for the requisite new outfit. My father proud to be representing the peace keeper vets was content to don his appropriately coloured jacket My father served in the RAF in Scotland before we emigrated to Canada where he joined the RCAF.
Early afternoon on Saturday July 2nd, I was trying out the new Google+ and keeping an eye on my twitter feed. I noticed a tweet from 1310News with the headline ‘Kate sits to chat with someone who could not stand to shake her hand’
When I viewed the photo there were my parents, sitting with the Duchess.. [NOT the case stated my mother this morning, "She very kindly motioned me to be seated as I stood to greet her and she sat with us for a chat"]
My mother was most interesting in seeing her ring, as she had long admired it and was truly thrilled when the Duchess held her hand as they spoke.
One journalist from the Ottawa Citizen, stated “Eleanor Henderson still with a hefty brogue” My mother seems baffled as she does not think she has any accent at all.
I believe that ‘Kate’ will be a valuable asset to the Monarchy, and we’ll see her handle the limelight with grace and style as she has demonstrated throughout the tour.
