MarketMeSuite’s CEO Tammy K Fennell NYer?- You betcha

I did a post all about MarketMeSuite and wanted to learn a bit more about the Lady behind the Dashboard!  I love the idea that a company goes from paid to FREE with a great dashboard that has all kinds of bells and whistles.

Now I am not so naive as to not comprehend that they will have to make some other things paid upsells. I am totally OK with that. I approached Tammy, who very kindly answered my questions:

Hello Tammy, I wanted to put a face to my favourite social media dashboard.. so I have a few questions:

Are You single or married? you have kids and a dog I think.. can you tell me a little more?

"TammyKFennell |CEO MarketMeSuite"I am married to a wonderful stay at home dad. And I have a wonderful little two year old boy (two tomorrow actually!).  I always know the age of MarketMeSuite b/c we launched our first beta test the week I gave birth, haha!  I have a dog named Skoda, who comes to the office every day, along with Brian who is my co-founder’s dog. Both rescue dogs, both vital to the work environment — they keep us happy and well entertained ;)

Tammy, you are/were a New Yorker, why start-up in the UK?

Were?!  I will always be a NY’er!

Alan (@wuup) and I (@tammykfennell) started MarketMeSuite together but remotely. I was a marketing chick and Alan a tech geek from Norfolk, UK. We met online after both consulting on different areas of the same project. Building an app was probably the last things on our minds. We both had our own small businesses at the time. But, in chatting, we both realized we had the same issues in each of our businesses — How to use social media to manage and convert leads. And we did what a lot of great (and stupid) people do. We took a leap of faith, formed a company, and worked like maniacs to get MarketMeSuite built and out to the masses.

I moved over here to the UK in early 2011 because we decided it was time to raise a small investment round. My husband is British, so it’s pretty easy for me to move freely between the US and the UK, whereas it’s a little more difficult for Alan and our lead developer, Bill, to move to America!

You were deemed an innovative Subscription only service. You hit record high subscribers in Nov and Dec 2010.. your growth topped 500% in the last 6 months of 2010; what prompted you to make MMS a free suite of tools/social media dashboard?

I cover a lot of that in this, http://marketmesuite.com/blog/why-has-marketmesuite-gone-free/, but basically the most important thing we can do is make sure MarketMeSuite is THE social media dashboard of choice, and we spotted an opportunity in the marketplace to break through.  We have plans to introduce paid upsells which will appeal to a certain demographic of our base.  We’ll be releasing an analytics element that will measure interactions, growth and ROI in a very unique way — based on actual use of the app. It’s a pretty groundbreaking approach, so our top priority is to make sure we have as many people using and benefiting from features of MarketMeSuite as we can, and we have big plans to keep pushing more features and innovation. Some paid, some free. We’re pretty excited.

MMS  Opened Free on Sep 26th 2011(I hope that is correct) then doubled its user base in 4 weeks, adding 10,000 new users. Within that time over 500,000 updates have been sent via MarketMeSuite: What was your initial goal for the firth month?

It’s funny I actually said “I want to hit 10,000 users in our first month.” So we hit it. And since we’ve been growing exponentially. People are realizing that we are out there solving a problem, and we’re continuing to find new and unique ways to give more to our users. We absolutely love our community and I feel so lucky to have such an engaged user base!

As someone who uses MarketMeSuite I just wanted to tell everyone how marvellous is it and that they ought to use it!!  ( I can be a bit obsessive with things I like)

Hangout Tip from Robert Pitt

Robert Pitt  -  10:54 AM  -  Public

Hangout Tip

It seems like the majority of issues in hangouts are not resolved and people seem to get upset about these issues.

The first tip that ill tell you is a very important tip, people do not seem to be using it and it’s one of the most powerful tools in hangouts, it’s called Report User

Google does not ignore these reports, they have teams working on resolving issues in hangouts, and if you have an issue in the hangout then please Report It

Start a limited hangout

When I created Hangout Canopy I knew that disruptive people join your hangouts but before we developed we understood the power of circles and knew that in if you started a limited hangout then you would only get your circles in then hangout.

Usually people tend to start a hangout with My Circles and Extended Circles, which do not get re-distributed out to the world bar your Circle Scope.

Blackout Hangout

If the worst comes to the worst you can ask everyone in the hangout to mute their video and sound, and then ignore that disruptive person, the chances are that he/she will leave after being bored.

Go to another hangout

If the distributive person has specifically targeted you, then don’t worry too much about why they have targeted you, just understand that on the internet we have trolls.

Take a look around your streamhangout canopy and other places for other hangouts you may be interested in, but before you go to another hangout Block the disruptive user first.

It’s important to block the user before hand as they won’t be able to follow you to your new hangout.

Hope this helps guys

Like a Tsunami Google+ arrived

Like a Tsunami: faster than expected, exponential growth, with little to no warning: that’s how Google+ entered the Social Media Arena.. I wanted to touch on some great info about G+ and some other bits that are more my observations. This first post I’ll start with a great informative excerpt from +Josh:

Aug 4th 2011 post of +Josh Sarz on Sagoyism
What makes Google Plus so special? Why is everyone flocking to it? Google Plus could not have come at a better time, where Facebook is being ridiculed by numerous people and personalities for a number of reasons. One of these would be the Facebook-Zynga marriage, and that Facebook decided to sell/share your info to third party companies.

Why should you care, anyway? It’s not that you’re sharing your home address or your phone numbers, or your personal information on Facebook. You can actually block people, or switch your security settings to hide the information that you only want your friends to see. Not to mention the fact that you’ve spent literally years on shaping your Facebook credibility, building up online relationships, connecting with loved ones and old friends from high school or even elementary school. Another reason why Facebook could have an upper hand is that it has been an established name among the Internet community. Let’s be honest. EVERYONE has a Facebook account! Facebook has the ever-famous Farmville, and a plethora of other games in it’s bucket, as well as helpful features. What does Google Plus have that Facebook doesn’t?

Nothing much really. Google Plus is still in it’s early stages, and the huge influx of members are probably just that it’s new and it looks cool. It doesn’t really have all the glam and the glitter that Facebook has…. yet.

So what does Google Plus offer? These are the little things that are making people sometimes beg for G+ invites.

1. Better privacy for your data. With the concept of circles, you can choose who sees your content, and who cannot. You can choose who you share information with when you post something in the stream (Google’s equivalent for your “Wall”). Your boss can be in a totally different circle than your work buddies, so he wouldn’t have to see your rants about how much of a jerk he is.

2. Hangouts. Think of a video call except you can do it with not just one other person, but with nine. Many people have already started brainstorming on creative ways for using Hangouts, and here is a short list of ideas from G+niuses.

3. Integration with other Google products. It’s not completely up yet, but soon Google will be connecting it’s other products like Google Reader, Google News, Google Documents, Youtube, and a whole lot more to improve the user experience.

There’s going to be a whole lot more, and a bunch of other people (25 million+) are hanging on for a good ride. And because of all the attention on Google Plus , Facebook has somewhat taken matters to keep their populace strong and numerous, even resorting to giving people who would want to migrate contacts, pictures and videos over G+ a hard time. You can read all about it in this article.. Right here..

Next post will discuss Circles…
